Kartuzy Refugee Support Center
Since the very beginning of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Open Kashubia Association actively support those who suffer due to the war. In order to organize our ongoing effort, we established the Kartuzy Refugee Support Center. Thanks to our donors we are able to provide so much needed support to the refugees and those who stayed in Ukraine.

Are you NOT in Ukraine or Poland and still want to support Ukrainians? Good – we know how you can help right now from where you are.
If you don’t have a van full of medical equipment, then probably the best way to support Ukrainians is sending money which we can use well here.
We started collecting gifts for Ukrainian refugees on Monday 4 days after the war outbreak and after 1 hour we had to ask the town council for an extra pavilion – people were that generous. By the next day 100% gifts were distributed to refugee families.
Without financial aid, our Refugee Support Center cannot continue giving help to those in need.
Currently we work hard to continue sending humanitarian convoys directly to Ukraine. Due to Russian attacks on critical infrastructure this winter Ukrainian population will need support even more that before.
So far we organized 30 humanitarian convoys delivered by our voluntary drivers.
We organize the work of over 80 volunteers from our Refugee Support Centers, we also cooperate with volunteers of three high schools. We organize emergency assistance points, providing care and meeting the most urgent needs. We run a contact point for accommodation – so far we have managed to find shelter for over 300 refugees. We provide comprehensive psychological, legal and formal assistance. On March 29, we launched Polish language classes for the first two groups of refugees – 24 people. Right now over 100 refugees attend classes in our 2 Refugee Support Centers in Kartuzy and Gdansk.
At the same time, we carry out many other activities necessary in a situation in which we all find ourselves, in the face of war and a wave of migration that has not been seen for several decades.
The Refugee Support Centers in Kartuzy and Gdansk, which is currently our main activity, will not continue giving long term support without you. Your regular support is essential to continue our mission. Our main expenses are emergency food purchases (when the gifts from local community run out, and we cannot leave incoming people without support), filling in humanitarian convoys and employment of people to provide support in our Center, mainly people from Ukraine due to their knowledge of the language, which includes two refugee women.
